To stop a moment in time and lock it onto a negative is capturing time.  It can never be changed and if missed never done again.  A sunset, a kiss, or a smile from a newborn baby are all one-time chances.  Stopping that time allows you to refresh your memory every time you look at that print.  Unlike digital photography you can’t reach in and open time.  You can change colors, add in something that was not there, or remove information that is not wanted.  With digital software you can create an image that never existed.  With a negative you can burn, dodge, and crop.  But you only get the information on that negative.  From pinhole cameras to the latest and greatest it does not matter how you capture time…..it’s how you enjoy it.

After investing countless hours on an enlarger at Camden County College it hit me.  I love this!  This first time you see your artwork come to life in a shallow pan of developer is like unlocking the passion for your work to the world.  Some people might not get it.  Some people might love it.  You will be judged at every level.  That is why I call photography art because it can be so subjective.
